MFM Devotional for 6 August 2022 Saturday Outline
Temperance, simply put, means self-control. It carries the sense of someone who has mastered his passions and desires as well as the person who effectively controls his sensual cravings. From world history and biblical perspective, the fact has been established that those who conquered their worlds are men and women who have the virtue of self-control.
That is, people who have first conquered themselves. It takes self-control to succeed virtually in every area of life. Many great souls, whose names adorn the biblical hall of fame, were men who made TEMPERANCE their watchword. Beloved, I believe you know that those who squandered the investment of God upon their lives; those who broke the heart of God, grieved the Holy Spirit and made heaven weep were men who cast the virtue of self-control out of the equation of their lives.
As it happened then; so it is now. Any Christian who lacks self-control is a pain to the heart of the Master. Many of the sins and iniquities that we see in Christendom today are directly linked to lack of self-control. It was lack of self-control that made Samson end as a victim of life. Gehazi lost a glorious ministry on the dark altar of greed and covetousness, simply because he lacked self control. King Saul failed because of the lack of self-control. Judas Iscariot ended shamefully after experiencing the power of the world to come because his life was void of self-control.
Demas turned back to the world after a meritorious Christian service with the great Apostle Paul because his self-control suffered a ship wreck and his destiny became damaged permanently. I believe you can now understand the shame, sorrow and stigma that lack of temperance can cause a person. The Bible says anyone who lacks self-control is like a city whose wall has broken down. This lack of protection will allow any evil to easily gain access. Temperance is a wall of protection against satanic invasion of one’s life. Do you have self-control?
